Project Management in the Public Sector: How Public Sector Projects Differ from those in the Private Sector
Did you know that the United States Air Force invented the title “project manager”? In fact, much of the early development of project management was on projects performed for the government. This webinar will discuss project management by the government rather than for the government. If you work in government, or want to know more about project management in government, this is the webinar for you. We shall consider projects in the context of public organizations, how the nature of government affects projects, how the public agency perspective on projects differs from that of the private sector, and challenges faced in the public sector.
Even if you aren't in a government role, there will be a lot of great information shared and you get to hear it from someone who has helped a lot with developing project management standards! Nigel's contributions include leading the development of the first standard for project management in government, published by PMI in 2002; serving as secretary and then convenor of one of the three working groups that wrote the first International Standard for Project Management, IS0 21500:2012; serving on the core teams for the second editions of the International Standards for Programme and Portfolio Management, ISO 21503:2022 and ISO 21504:2022; the third edition of the PMBOK® Guide; the first edition of PMI’s WBS Practice Standard; and the first editions of PMI’s Government Extension to the PMBOK® Guide and Construction Extension to the PMBOK® Guide.
